1. What is IHR certification?

The International Human Resources Certification has been established by the International Human Resource Institute to recognize Human Resources professionals who have met a level of experience and training. The IHRP exam focuses on operational HR concerns, while the IHRSP exam addresses the more strategic HR issues.

Upon successful completion of the exams, qualified professionals are granted certification certificates attesting that that the standards set by the International Human Resource Institute have been met and the professionals are entitled to the IHRP or IHRSP designation.

2. Why is IHR certification desirable?

The International Human Resources Certification is a voluntary, public recognition of professional achievement both within and outside of the profession. Certification is also a personal professional goal to measure knowledge for use in the workplace. Certification also defines the competencies needed to be an expert in the HR field.

3. What is the purpose of IHR Certification?

The IHRP and the IHRSP designations demonstrate that the HR professional has mastered the HR body of knowledge and has accepted the personal challenge to stay informed of new developments in the HR field. To be successful, HR professionals must be seen as a major player in contributing to the development and accomplishment of the organization¡¯s strategic goals.

4. Who is eligible for IHR certification?

To be eligible for either examination, candidates must have an undergraduate degree, as well as a minimum of two years of exempt-level HR work experience as a practitioner, educator, researcher or consultant. The International Human Resource Institute highly recommends that candidates taking the IHRP exam have four years of exempt-level HR work experience, and those candidates taking the IHRSP exam have a minimum of eight years of exempt-level HR work experience.

5. What IHR training opportunities will be offered to exam candidates?

Candidates can participate in three six-hour classes in preparation for the IHRP and IHRSP exams, which follow:

  1. Competency-Based Recruitment/Competency-Based Performance Management
  2. Human Resource Development/Compensation and Benefits
  3. Employee Relations/Strategic Management

Class participants will be given a ¡°completion¡± certificate at the end of each certification preparation class; however, those candidates who successfully complete the IHRP or the IHRSP exams earn the IHRP or IHRSP ¡°certification¡± certificate.

6. When and where will the IHR certification preparation classes be held?

The first of the three six-hour classes will address the key methods utilized by Human Resources to partner strategically in the functional areas of Competency-Based Recruitment and Competency-Based Performance Management.
